About This Game

A small frog, a bag of dice, and a dungeon full of trouble. Die in the Dungeon is a turn-based roguelite that brings a clever twist to deck building: your collection is made entirely of dice. Each encounter challenges you to turn a handful of rolls into a plan that keeps your little adventurer alive.

The version available on gameVgames is Die in the Dungeon CLASSIC, the browser game featured on the original itch.io page. Its expressive pixel art and charming frog hero give the adventure a playful personality, while increasingly demanding battles put your decisions to the test.

Core Gameplay

Your dice provide attacks, protection, healing, and useful boosts. Place them on the board, consider how their effects work together, and decide when your setup is ready. A strong combination can make an ordinary roll much more valuable, especially when you need to balance dealing damage with surviving the next attack.

Between encounters, you shape your collection through the rewards and opportunities you receive. Upgrading a dependable die or removing a weak one can be more useful than collecting everything offered. Experienced players recommend keeping a focused selection so their best combinations appear more consistently.

How to Play?

  • Mouse: Navigate menus and select available options.
  • Click and drag: Move dice onto the board to prepare your turn.
  • Finish: Confirm your setup and resolve the turn.
  • Tutorial: Select the tutorial option on Floor 1 to learn the basics.

Tips for Better Runs

  • Build reliable defense. A powerful attack is useful, but surviving a difficult turn gives you another chance to use it.
  • Choose new dice carefully. Additions should support your existing collection rather than make your strongest combinations harder to draw.
  • Look beyond raw numbers. Properties such as Hollow can change how many useful actions you fit into a turn.
  • Read special effects. Enemy abilities and unusual board spaces can change which placement is safest.

How can I play more than three dice in one turn?

Look for dice with the Hollow property. A Hollow die does not consume energy when played, allowing you to use it alongside the dice paid for with your normal energy allowance. This directly addresses a question raised by players who found the starting limit restrictive.

Why did one of my healing dice disappear?

Check whether it had the Glass property. Glass dice are single-use, so using one can explain why it is missing from your collection afterward. Players have specifically reported this happening to healing dice; check each die’s properties before relying on it for future battles.

Do Heavy dice disappear for the rest of the fight after I use them?

No. Developer Jaun explained that Heavy dice return to the discard pile and eventually cycle back into your deck, allowing you to draw them again. The Heavy property itself does not make a die permanently disposable.

How do Honey dice work in the Queen Bee fight?

Placement is crucial. As players explain in the comments, Honey dice affect spaces at a distance determined by their rolled value. On crown-marked spaces, the effect doubles the value of dice there; on ordinary affected spaces, it halves their value. Use the crown spaces to your advantage and avoid accidentally weakening an important defensive die.

Should I keep adding dice or upgrade the ones I already have?

A smaller, stronger collection is often easier to work with. Community guides recommend upgrading key attack, block, and boost dice, then removing weaker extras when suitable opportunities appear. Add a new die when it improves your strategy, rather than simply because it is available.

Can I save a run and continue later?

Plan to finish your current run in one sitting. The developer confirmed that the browser version can retain achievements and other progress, but players have continued to request a way to save unfinished runs. Persistent achievements should not be confused with a save-and-resume feature for an active adventure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

A desktop or laptop with a mouse is the recommended option. The original page lists mouse input, and players have reported unresponsive touch controls on Android. Mobile compatibility may vary, so a phone or tablet should not be assumed to offer the same experience.
