Imagine loading into a massive map where up to 1,000 players are fighting simultaneously, completely within your web browser. Developed by Yp3d, this multiplayer shooter takes heavy inspiration from classic line battle games, throwing you into large scale 3D combat.

Unlike many modern IO shooters, Redcoats.io focuses on old school musket combat mechanics. Timing your reloads, aiming carefully, and positioning yourself correctly matter more than spraying bullets. The game is easy to learn but surprisingly difficult to master, especially when enemy players rush your position while you are reloading.

1. Pick Your Class: Before you spawn, you must choose your role. You can be a frontline musketeer, a fast moving cavalryman, an explosive cannoneer, or a sailor.
2. Coordinate Attacks: Running off alone usually gets you killed quickly. Stick with your squad, form firing lines, and push the objective together to overwhelm the enemy forces.
3. Master the Controls: Use the WASD keys to move across the battlefield. Left click to fire your musket or swing your sword. Right click or hold Shift to aim your shots carefully. Press C to crouch in the trenches, F to interact with artillery or ship wheels, and V to switch your camera between first person and third person views.

Combat Roles

Your playstyle changes entirely based on the class you select before spawning.

• Musketeer: The backbone of the army. You carry a flintlock musket equipped with a bayonet. You are most effective when standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other musketeers, forming a wall of lead against enemy charges.
• Cavalryman: Built for speed and flanking. Moving quickly on horseback allows you to scout enemy positions or run down isolated infantrymen trying to retreat.
• Cannoneer: The masters of artillery. You operate field cannons capable of long-range destruction. In close-quarters combat, you can load grapeshot to unleash a devastating wall of shrapnel that can wipe out an entire enemy squad instantly.
• Sailor: You control the waters. Sailors work together to crew multi-gun warships. You can engage in intense ship-to-ship naval battles or use your cannons to bombard enemy forts from the coastline.

Why does it take so long to reload my gun?

Players new to the historic shooter genre often ask. Redcoats.io strives for authenticity. Flintlock muskets historically took a long time to load, which forces players to rely on their bayonets for melee combat and encourages firing together in organized lines rather than playing as a lone wolf. 

How do you actually steer the large warships?

A single player cannot effectively use a large warship. Sailing requires a coordinated crew. One player must interact with the ship's wheel using the F key to steer, while other sailors must man the side cannons to fire at enemies. 

How do I play on the exact same team as my friends?

When you first load into the game, you will see a server selection and faction screen. To play with your friends, you all need to make sure you select the exact same server region. Once connected, coordinate to pick the same colored army faction before you click spawn. 

Can my horse be shot out from under me?

Yes. Cavalry horses are very large targets and take damage just like players do. If your horse is killed by a musket volley or a stray cannonball, you will be thrown to the ground and forced to fight the rest of that life as a standard infantryman.

Is there friendly fire in these massive battles?

Fortunately, no. With up to 1,000 units firing heavy artillery and massive musket volleys into crowded trenches, friendly fire would make the game completely unplayable. Your bullets and cannonballs will not harm your teammates, allowing you to safely shoot from behind your own front line. 

How do I get off a horse or step away from a cannon?

The interaction button works as a simple toggle. Just like pressing the F key to mount a horse, take the wheel of a ship, or grab a cannon, you simply press F again to dismount or step away from the equipment.

Do I need to create an account to play?

No account is required to jump into the action. You can simply enter a guest username on the main screen, pick your faction, and immediately spawn onto the battlefield without jumping through any registration hoops. 

Do I regenerate health over time?

No. In this historic warfare setting, there is no automatic health regeneration or magic medkits. If you take a hit from a stray musket ball or shrapnel and survive, you will have to play extremely carefully for the rest of your current life. Once you die, you simply respawn with full health.
