1. Start Small: You begin the match with a small square base of your designated color.

3. Close the Loop: To capture a new area and fill it with your color, you must successfully navigate back to your own base, closing the loop.

Is it actually possible to capture 100 percent of the map in Paper.io?

To achieve this rare victory, your best strategy is to focus entirely on hunting and eliminating every other opponent on the board first. Once the map is empty, you can carefully color in the remaining space. 

How do I defeat a player who just hides safely inside their own color in Paper.io?

1. Dealing with "campers" can be frustrating. You cannot eliminate a player while their character is moving safely inside their own captured territory.
2. The best community strategy is to slowly steal their land from the outside edges.
3. By constantly eating away at their borders, you will shrink their safe zone and eventually force them to come out and defend their space.
4. When they finally rush out to attack you, you can counterattack and cut their trail!

Are the other players in Paper.io real people or just bots? 

This is by far the most asked question in the community! While the game provides a highly competitive multiplayer feel, the standard web version relies heavily on advanced AI bots to fill the arena. The developers do this so you never have to wait in a queue for a lobby to fill up. These bots are specifically programmed to simulate real human tactics, including baiting, aggressive trail hunting, and territorial expansion, making them incredibly challenging to beat. 

What happens if I accidentally crash into my own line?

You will be instantly eliminated. Just like the classic retro game Snake, your own exposed trail is a deadly obstacle. It is very easy to panic when an enemy is chasing you and accidentally turn inward, crossing your own path.

Why did I die when I hit another player head on? 

Head to head collisions outside of safe zones are tricky. If you and an opponent crash directly into each other face first, the game usually eliminates both players simultaneously.  

Does staying close to the wall give me an advantage?

Yes and no. Using the outer boundary walls is a very common strategy because it protects one side of your trail from being attacked. However, it is also a massive risk. If you miscalculate a turn or lag for a split second, you will hit the edge of the map and instantly die. Use the walls for early expansion, but move toward the center as your territory grows. 

Can two players eliminate each other at the same time? 

Yes. If two players collide head on while they are both outside of their safe zones, both players are usually eliminated simultaneously. It is always much safer to aim for the side of an enemy's trail rather than a direct collision.
